Understanding is theoria as words and actions is praxis. There is a dynamic relatedness between the two. So that unsuppressed understanding yields words and actions as geniality or creative responsiveness to life.
Geniality was a term used by Nikolai Berdyeav.
Jesus was very polemical against a lot of people such as Pharisees and tax-collectors and he was not into pampering or telling people that they are ok when they are not ok. which is a problem of our times. Pampering is one of the factors of corruption the other two being abuse and indifference. You can be nice to people through lack of character as well as you being nice to people through character. You can be tough with people through character as well as being tough with people without character and there is a word for this: sadism. Sadism is becoming a problem in modern times.
Quote: “In this the science would share a place with historical religions; they are all critiques of false perceptions of ignoble hero systems. A science of society, in other words, with be a study similar to the one envisaged by Old Testament prophets, Augustine, Kierkegaard, Max Scheler, William Hocking; it will be a critique of idolatry, of the costs of a too narrow focus for the dramatization of man’s need for power and expiation.” From the book: “Escape from Evil” by Ernest Becker and Becker was a secular person and Pulitzer prize winning author.
I believe at the beginning Christianity was a revolution against legalism and merely going by the rules while suppressing and repressing such things as resentment.
Quote: “As Norman Brown so well summed it up in three brilliant pages, the prophetic function of religion is the same as the function of psycho-analysis: — The return of the repressed– The release from the unconscious of true perceptions of empirical reality in place of the wistful cultural and private fantasies we put there.” From: “Escape from Evil”.
