Purpose

    Hey everyone!

I am new to TheOoze, but have appreciated looking through all of the different discussions that have been had on this forum. It is interesting to read everyone's different opinions and beliefs and see how our basic need for meaning surfaces for us all.

So here are the questions I have for everyone: Do you have a purpose in life? Where do you get that purpose from? Does that purpose give you meaning and hope?

I would just be interested to hear what everyone's thoughts are on this topic, as I find that many people seem to be searching for a purpose in their lives. I am a senior in college, so this tends to be a time in young people's lives where they are deciding what jobs to pursue and what paths to take in their future. At least for me, these decisions are strongly influenced by what I see to be the purpose of my life, so I was wondering how that purpose manifests itself for others.

I am excited to hear what everyone has to say!

Huh? You're in college and you're over 65?

To be honest with you I try to avoid asking myself those questions simply because we have a tendency to over evaluate and confuse our desires and projections with what we actually do, are good at, and are called to.

I'd be far more comfortable in allowing those here to tell me what they think my 'purpose' and calling is. I think they would probably see much more clearly than I would of myself.

Or are you talking about work, career and profession?

Thanks for the welcome! And I am 21, not 65. :-)

That's interesting, I find that your response is really making me think. Would you mind elaborating on what you said above a bit more? Are you saying that wondering about what our purpose is can cause unneccessary worry when we already know what we can do and are good at?

An outside perspective would probably shed light on what your calling is in regards to how you act and present yourself. I guess that I could see myself as having a specific purpose, but fail to convey that in the way I act throughout my life. Do you think that someone else could accurately tell you what your overall purpose is for your life?

In my opinion, my purpose could influence what career I choose or what I see as my role in whatever career I choose. For example, as a Christian I can work in an office, but see my greater purpose as showing God's love to the people I work with.

Sorry that I'm asking so many questions, I just want to better understand what you think. Also, how do you do that thing where you quote others and it shows up in the blue box?--I can't seem to figure it out.
