Need some more church in my life, but I don't want the standard traditional stuff that most of us are used to. With that said, I also don't want something so extremely progressive that it's unrecognizable as a Christian fellowship. You think that'd be easy to find in a city like NYC. Anyone have any suggestions?
If you're looking for an emergent-y kind of church you could try Transmission.
Disclaimer - I've never been there and don't know anyone who has. Their website makes it look like they're very interested in reaching out to people who aren't into the traditional church experience, though.
A few updates ago The Ooze used to have a section where postmodern/emergent/non-traditional churches could leave links to their websites. I wish that it was still around. The searches were clunky but you could find really interesting stuff if you were willing to let pages load slowly.
Does anyone know if this information was saved anywhere?
Thanks! Great suggestion, too. I actually tried to go there a couple weeks ago but they have some outdated info on their service times and I missed out. Next week though.
Hey jdmyers! I've been attending a great church on 65th and Columbus called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have loved it! The people are so kind and it's all about Christ and His Atonement and finding happiness in this life and the next. I've learned a lot of really neat things and my faith in God has grown so much. I bet you would love it :) Good luck with your search!
Pretty sure the Mormon church isn't exactly for me, no matter what branch springs out of it. But one month later, I think I may have found a good potential church - Forefront Church. Just met with one of the community pastors to talk about faith and culture, and it was pretty much exactly what I needed it to be - focused on love and grace and the message of Christ and not intent on the rules and rigors of tradition. Thanks all!
